Syllabus for the Year.

Apologia High School Chemistry Syllabus

Students need the following:
Notebook of any type: Used for completion of assignments, and experiments.
16 Tabs – one for each chapter of the book.
Apologia Exploring Creation with Chemistry. 2nd Edition
Access to computer for completing assignments, and accessing blog for Chemistry.

Expectations for Lab Write Ups
DUE Tuesday after Class.  (Writing them up before class is helpful)

Correct way to do the Math Portion of Homework.

Sample Homework
1-  Copy the Problem
2- Write down all conversion factors that are needed
3- Solve the problem.  Use the natural lines on the paper as fraction bars.
4- Circle the answer
5- Skip spaces.

Writing legibly, and in a specific format, helps parents and teachers see your work clearly, and makes seeing mistakes and correct answers easier.  A happy parent and happy teacher are more apt to give students the benefit of the doubt, and give credit for work.

Always show WORK and UNITS!

Resources for the Periodic Table

Here is the latest Periodic Table.  There are new elements discovered and added to the table periodically (see what I did there?).

Here are a few on-line resources that show what the elements are actually used for.

Wonderful Resource with Several Tabs at the top to show all the various qualities of the element.

Fun Resource that gives a picture of what that element is used for in everyday life.

Welcome to Apologia Chemistry Lab for The Road Less Traveled.

Most of you are here because you need Chemistry to graduate high school.  Am I right??  Let's face it, labs in science are ALWAYS more fun in a group setting, and what Mom wants to mess up her own kitchen with Chemistry, when she needs to be concerned about the Chemistry of cooking dinner?
Others of you are here because you know that your desired field of study will require an understanding of Chemistry, and will require further study in College.

Whatever the reason, I am excited to guide you on your journey.  I will facilitate the labs for you, be checking your homework for completion, and I am available to answer questions as they arise.

I am excited to be learning with you the joys of Chemistry and how it relates to the world around us.  One of the greatest reminders of God is His incredible creation.  My desire is that your love and awe of Him will grow as we explore His creation in greater detail.

And hopefully we will laugh along the way!
